Fine Art Mounting

For exhibition prints, gallery and fine-art photographs and fine-art inkjet prints, we recommend the following mounting materials, which are all conservation materials, extremely durable, stable, and resistant to shrinking or buckling over time with exposure to natural elements.

museum mount board

is a lignin free and acid-free rag board made from 100% cotton. It is available in a variety of colors, though bright white, warm white and black are most popular and in 2-ply, 4-ply, 8-ply or 12-ply construction. Mount board is typically used as an inexpensive display option for exhibitions, or used in conjunction with a wooden frame for permanent display.

kapa board

Image Finish’s favourite light weight board option- Kapa board is a lightweight polyurethane foam board with high resistance to bending and pressure. The centre of the board has Aluminium reinforced liners for extremely high resistance to warping. Kapa boards are excellent for lightweight displays where a larger print requires hanging with Velcro, double-sided tape or press in hooks.  Available in large sizes.

aluminum

It is generally offered in extremely thin 1.2mm, 2mm or 3mm thickness and is extremely stable, considerably lighter than acrylic, and will not crack or change with variations in temperature or humidity. Aluminum is a chemically inert product with no off-gassing to damage the image.

dibond

A very popular choice, DiBond is an Aluminium Composite Material from Germany. It consists of two ‘skins’ of thin .2mm aluminium thermo-bonded to a solid black polyethylene core. Dibond is half the weight of equivalent aluminium, or acrylic, yet at the same time is engineered to retain its superior flatness and will not bow like solid aluminium sheet. It is extremely stable, resisting bending and warping over time, and may be exposed to extremes and temperatures without affect. It is available in a variety of thicknesses and colors; the 3mm white is the most popular for mounting purposes. Although the back of the material is available in a variety of colors, from the edge, the two sheets of aluminum and polyethylene core are visible, giving it a unique look.  A number of ACM brands exist but through time and experience, Image Finish works with Dibond. Its quality surpasses imitation brands and for Image Finish clients, we prefer to use quality products.

acrylic

is also a popular mounting substrate. Half the weight of glass, it is also extremely smooth, flat, and stable. It is available in a variety of colors (including black, white, clear, and opal), and a variety of thicknesses; the 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm and 10mm are the most popular. The team at Image Finish can also create a “sandwich” with your image, with acrylic on the front and the back.  We can face mount the image to the acrylic for a show stopping frameless image. Image Finish use Plexiglas® acrylic from Germany, choosing from their standard, UV100 Gallery and MR scratch resistant ranges. Plexiglas® acrylic is a chemically inert product with no off-gassing to damage the image. It provides a clearer view of the image than glass.
